Dude, you nailed it. I love this part:
I don’t believe God wants to eliminate suffering. I believe he wants us to become more like him in our suffering.

Many christians think life is only full of butterflies and rainbows once you meet Jesus, but He said the complete opposite:

“… In this godless world you will continue to experience difficulties. But take heart! I’ve conquered the world.” John 16:33

Once we realize this and change our thinking, we’re more prepared to suffer well, knowing that Jesus will see us through and we’ll be stronger because of the crappy things we go through.

Thanks for that wonderful insight, Bill. There are so many people that hang on to their hurts…sometimes because they don’t know HOW to release them…sometimes because they WANT to carry the baggage. I’m glad that God has taught us how to let HIM carry them.

Friend, Your roots are going down DEEP. It’s when you have a Hebrews 12 perspective “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the JOY set before Him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of God the Father,” that you say to suffering “Bring it! And I will rejoice!” Don’t know if you’re into Francis Chan, but I’ve watched a few of his teachings and am buying his book, about–what a coincidence–suffering. This is the main message of SeedGiver, too, as you may have divined, and the hope is to embolden people with the joy that is set before them. Not “crap, I guess I have to suffer, too,” but “Rejoice! I get to suffer for His sake and His glory!” I’m convinced that youth (and all of us) really want a Gospel preached that is worth fighting for, hurting for, dying for. Otherwise, it isn’t worthwhile–it’s just a participation trophy in a baseball league where they don’t keep score and everyone plays equally and no one is made to work hard and there are no winners and losers because that wouldn’t be nice. Nice-ness and morality and tolerance are going to kill us.
